How to write a sizzling personal ad
How to write an ad for an online personals directory?

An online personals directory is a website that displays many different personal ads and all the details for that person. Usually an online ad will consist of a photo, a brief message and a brief about you section as well as the important headline. Writing the perfect ad for an online personals directory will help you win the heart of one of the 8 million women who visit dating sites every month. Writing your ad should be just that. It's not just a quick two line message that rehashes the same old content and with an unoriginal headline like ‘good looking man seeks wonderful woman' because you simply won't stand out and you will find it very difficult to have any success at finding love online.

Three seconds is all you have.

Website surfers give a website three seconds before they make that first decision and this is no less true of an online personal ad. You have to make the headline sing out to all the women who read it and say email me. Now imagine how many men use the same basic headline ‘good looking man seeks wonderful woman'. Any woman seeing this has probably just seen hundreds that are very similar and will move on to the next guy without any hesitation. Think of something unique; it doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with your personally but it should grab their attention and make them want to click the link and read more.

A filler that thrills.

Once someone has clicked the link on your ad in any online personals directory it's the job of your content to take the attention and create interest. A common mistake when writing an online personal ad is to list everything you like doing. Something along the lines of ‘I like to swim, run, camp, hike, walk, climb, sit, relax, run, talk, drink and have fun'. Most people turn off pretty near the beginning of a list like this. Did you notice that run was written twice? It's boring, it's dull and it really doesn't convey much of an appealing image.

Instead of saying you like to do these things consider giving an explanation; ‘I spent last weekend holidaying in the Rockies putting my hiking and climbing skills to the test but the views from the mountain tops were exquisite and well worth the effort. The evening entertainment with the locals colourful to say the least, but very enjoyable.' All you've really said there is you like walking and meeting people but it's a lot more appealing.

The close.

In sales terminology it's called the close and you should use it to not only sell yourself but to do it quickly. You don't want your potential partner to move on and look at other profiles. Consider adding something like ‘next week I'm off to Texas for some more excitement.' This not only makes you sound like you lead a busy, exciting life but the mention of time makes viewers subconsciously act quickly.
